In the third quarter of this year, Spain’s gambling industry showed strong performance with a total revenue of €293.6 million.
While this figure was comfortably ahead of the €240.8 million earned in the same quarter last year, it fell short by 2.7% when compared to the €312.6 million generated in Q2 of this year.
Breaking down the Q3 figures, the casino segment continued to dominate the Spanish gambling market, contributing €160.3 million in revenue, which marked an impressive 25.3% increase from the previous year and accounted for 52.7% of the total market share.
Among the casino games, live roulette experienced the highest growth with a 27.8% increase in GGR, while slots also saw substantial growth at 25.9%.
In terms of quarter-on-quarter performance, blackjack GGR surged by 11.5%, slots by 8.1%, and live roulette by 5.4%. However, conventional roulette GGR saw a slight decline of 2.2% from Q2.
Sports betting revenue reached €113.5 million in Q3, demonstrating a remarkable 22.7% year-on-year increase and representing 37.3% of the total GGR for the quarter.
Pre-match bet GGR declined by 31.7% from Q2, while in-play wagers dropped by 0.3%. Nevertheless, GGR from other fixed-odds betting increased by 46.1% from Q2.
Poker also showed positive growth, with GGR of €26.8 million, up 22.0% from Q3 last year and 4.1% higher than Q2 2023.
Revenue from poker tournaments experienced a 31.1% year-on-year increase, and poker cash GGR rose by 2.1% compared to the previous year and 6.1% compared to Q2.
Bingo revenue slipped by 1.0% year-on-year to €3.6 million but saw a 2.9% improvement from Q2.
However, GGR from contests declined by 68.4% from Q2 despite a 56.6% increase from the previous year, totaling €50,000.
In Q3, Spanish consumers deposited a total of €921.8 million, an 11.9% increase from the previous year but slightly lower than in Q2.
Withdrawals amounted to €615.9 million, marking a year-on-year rise of 8.1%, although they were 2.9% lower than Q2.
Additionally, 322,709 new accounts were opened in Q3, surpassing both last year and the second quarter.
The average number of active game accounts stood at 1,082,743, reflecting a 10.6% increase from the previous year but a 4.6% decrease from Q2.
Operator spending on marketing in Q3 reached €93.3 million, a 12.0% increase compared to the previous year but 4.9% lower than Q2.
Promotions accounted for the majority of marketing spend at €47.7 million, followed by advertising at €33.2 million, and affiliates at €11.6 million.
During Q3, Spain had 78 licensed operators active, including 50 offering casino games, 42 providing sports betting, nine offering poker, three with bingo, and two with contests.
