Consumer spending in Iowa for January totalled £205.4 million, marking a notable increase of 11.1% from the previous year’s figure of £191.7 million in January 2023.
However, it trailed behind December’s expenditure of £219.6 million by 8.2%.
Of this spending, a substantial £184.3 million was allocated to online sports wagering, leaving £21.1 million for retail sportsbooks.
Revenue for January stood at £16.5 million, showing a significant rise of 33.9% from the previous year’s £12.3 million in January.
Nonetheless, it represented a 16.0% decline from December’s revenue of £19.8 million.
Online wagering contributed £15.2 million to the monthly revenue, while retail sportsbooks accounted for £1.1 million.
Leading the market in Iowa are FanDuel and Diamond Jo Dubuque, whose partnership generated £6.0 million in revenue from £51.0 million in bets during January.
DraftKings and Wild Rose Jefferson followed as distant runners-up, accruing revenue of £2.3 million for the month.
Together, players spent £27.8 million on sports betting across online and retail platforms through this partnership.
In third place was Wild Rose Clinton, also in partnership with DraftKings, achieving revenue of £2.0 million with a January handle of £21.0 million.
Meanwhile, Wild Rose Emmetsburg, in collaboration with DraftKings, posted revenue of £1.8 million from a monthly handle of £18.4 million.
Total player winnings for the month amounted to £191.3 million, with £175.9 million originating from online sources and £15.4 million from retail establishments. Tax contributions for January reached £1.1 million.
These results coincide with the recent launch of the Fanatics Sportsbook in Iowa by Fanatics Betting and Gaming (FBG), replacing the PointsBet brand in the state.
Catfish Bend Casino, housing the existing PointsBet retail sportsbook, is undergoing rebranding as a Fanatics Sportsbook, accompanied by the installation of new self-service betting kiosks from Suzohapp.
Iowa marks the twelfth state to feature the Fanatics Sportsbook, as part of FBG’s broader strategy to phase out the PointsBet brand across the US following its acquisition of PointsBet US in August 2023. Catfish Bend Casino reported revenue of £311,186 from £3.7 million in bets for January.
