In the fourth quarter, gross gaming revenue saw a modest increase of 0.6% compared to the same period in 2022 in Spain.
Additionally, it rose by 3.6% when compared to the revenue generated in the third quarter of the year.
Breaking down the figures, casinos emerged as the primary revenue driver during Q4.
Casino activities contributed significantly, with total revenue reaching €171.3m, constituting 54.3% of the entire market revenue in Spain.
The growth in the casino sector was notably supported by a substantial 25.9% surge in slots revenue and a 15.3% increase in revenue from live roulette.
In other sectors, sports betting saw revenue amounting to €114.7m, representing 36.4% of the total revenue, while poker accounted for €25.4m, comprising 8.1% of the overall revenue.
In the poker segment, tournaments experienced a slight decrease of 0.5% in revenue variation, whereas poker cash witnessed a 7.0% increase.
Additionally, revenue from bingo activities amounted to €3.8m, contributing to 1.2% of the total revenue, while contests brought in €50,000.
Total deposits during Q4 showed a notable increase of 9.4% compared to the same period in 2022. Consumers deposited a total of €1.04bn into their online gambling accounts during this period.
The monthly average of active game accounts also saw a rise of 6.8% year-on-year, reaching 1,269,585.
However, the monthly average for new game accounts experienced a slight decline of 2.3%, settling at 129,207.
Regarding operator marketing expenditure, total spending during Q4 amounted to €113.0m, reflecting a 5.3% increase from 2022.
This spending was allocated as follows: €53.0m on promotions, €45.2m on advertising, €14.0m on affiliation, and €750,000 on sponsorship.
By the conclusion of Q4, there were a total of 78 licensed operators active in Spain.
Among these, 49 offered casino games, 43 provided sports betting services, nine catered to poker, three offered bingo, and two focused on contests.
