Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Liverpool’s Curtis Jones in the summer transfer window, as they look to bolster their midfield, a Spurs source told My Betting Edge on Wednesday.
Tottenham are prepared to pay up to £65 million to secure Jones, but it’s unclear if Liverpool will be willing to let him go.
Spurs’ interest in Jones comes amid the team reportedly being keen on signing Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios, though securing his signature could prove challenging due to his hefty €100 million release clause.
Jones therefore appears to be a backup option, in the event they’re unable to agree a deal to bring Rios to the Premier League.
Despite Spurs’ recent struggles under manager Ange Postecoglou, the club remains intent on bolstering their squad with top talent. Sources suggest that West Ham and Nottingham Forest are also monitoring the 23-year-old Colombian international, though none of the interested Premier League clubs are currently willing to meet Palmeiras’ full valuation.
Rios, who recently extended his contract with the Brazilian side until 2028, has been described as an “impressive” talent and a “proper, proper player.” Tottenham were reportedly interested in securing a deal for him in the January transfer window, but Palmeiras remained firm on their financial demands, preventing any progress beyond initial discussions.
As Postecoglou faces increasing pressure to turn Spurs’ fortunes around, it remains to be seen whether he will still be in charge come the summer. Reports indicate that his future at the club depends on upcoming performances, with the board closely assessing results. If he remains at the helm, Rios is expected to be a top target.
Given Palmeiras’ reluctance to negotiate below the release clause, Tottenham may explore alternative strategies, such as a player-plus-cash deal, to secure Rios’ services. The Brazilian outfit views the midfielder as a key part of their project, making negotiations even more complex.
With Spurs eager to strengthen their midfield and Rios emerging as a prime candidate, the coming months will determine whether the North London club can structure a deal to land their sought-after target.
