Sportsbook operator bet365 is set to launch in Maryland after receiving license approval from the state’s regulators, marking its 15th U.S. market entry.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency confirmed the approval during a recent hearing, cementing the British company’s growing presence across the American betting landscape.
Rapid Expansion Across the U.S.
Bet365’s U.S. expansion has accelerated in 2025.
The company launched in Kansas just weeks ago, following simultaneous debuts in Tennessee and Illinois earlier this year.
Maryland will now become the latest market for the sportsbook, which continues to position itself alongside established operators such as FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM.
Maryland Market Opportunity
The state’s sports betting industry has already proven to be lucrative.
In July, operators collectively handled $364.1 million in wagers. Analysts suggest bet365’s entry could further intensify competition in an already strong market.
The timing is also notable, as the NFL season begins on September 5, giving bet365 an opportunity to capture betting activity tied to America’s most popular sport.
Partnerships and New Products
In August, bet365 announced a collaboration with Inspired Entertainment to roll out a portfolio of virtual sports products, enhancing its offerings for customers in existing and new markets.
The company is expected to issue a statement shortly regarding its Maryland launch plans.
Regulatory Shifts in Maryland
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency has had an active summer.
Earlier this month, it reversed a decision to award a lottery contract to Intralot after a review found the bid failed to comply with state procurement rules.
This regulatory shift underscores the heightened scrutiny within Maryland’s gambling sector, making bet365’s approval a notable development.
With its track record of aggressive expansion and new product launches, bet365 appears well-positioned to make an immediate impact in Maryland’s competitive sports betting landscape.
