Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has officially launched its igaming platform and sportsbook in Portugal, under a partnership with Betway.
This collaboration, first announced in April 2022, is a significant milestone for Betway, which had secured licenses for sports betting and igaming in Portugal back in February 2020.
It also marks GiG’s continued expansion in the country, with GoldenPark having gone live in Portugal the previous year, utilizing GiG’s player account manager and sportsbook.
Betway’s CEO, Anthony Werkman, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “As part of our ambitious growth strategy for Portugal in 2024, this GiG platform will help play a role in expediting our objectives to elevate the sports betting experience for existing Betway customers in Portugal and appealing to new ones.”
He also emphasized the collaborative nature of the agreement, emphasizing that it would enable both teams to work together to achieve shared goals within the country.
The deal is significant not only for Betway and GiG but also because it represents the first partnership under the new leadership of GiG.
Richard Carter and Andrew Cochrane, both former executives at SBTech and DraftKings, now lead GiG as part of a restructure that separates the GiG Media affiliate arm and Platform & Sportsbook divisions.
This strategic move was initiated following a review conducted by GiG in February 2023.
Carter, now CEO of Platform & Sportsbook, and Cochrane, serving as chief business officer of the division, are excited about the future. Cochrane stated, “This is a very exciting time to be a part of GiG,” highlighting the company’s continued investment in product and technology capabilities to secure more tier-one clients and enhance product features.
The Portugal launch follows GiG’s recent acquisition of affiliate group KaFe Rocks, adding to its growing portfolio of brands in over 20 markets.
This acquisition, which came a year after GiG’s purchase of AskGamblers, reinforces GiG Media’s presence in the online casino affiliation space, particularly in North America, and accelerates the diversification of its business.
In summary, the partnership between GiG and Betway is a strategic move that supports both companies’ growth ambitions in Portugal.
It also marks a new chapter for GiG under the leadership of industry veterans Richard Carter and Andrew Cochrane, as the company continues to expand its presence in the global gaming and affiliate marketing sectors.
